Training Programme on Ethical Leadership - AfricanBIB in cooperation with CSC in Yaunde

The Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics (WCGE) is a Center that promotes moral consciousness and ethical competences to present and future decision makers in politics, business, and civil society. The aim of the center is to expand awareness concerning moral ideals like solidarity, fairness, integrity and sustainability and to foster tools for their implementation under the conditions of modern society - i.e. globalization, market economy, competition, etc. By promoting ethics, the WCGE is focusing on practical challenges in real life, not on academic discourses. It is all about how responsible decisions can be made in ethical dilemma situations, how integrity and reliability become substantial part of government, individual and corpo-rate behaviour under messy conditions, how they can be enforced by adequate institutions, governance structures, and incentive systems. The questions of enlightenment and implementation of morality in real life is crucial.

As part of its global engagement on ethics, the program Building Global Cooperation is commencing the implementation of training programmes for young leaders on ethical leadership in Africa. The training will help future leaders have a nuanced understanding of how to assess their different local realities and the unique combination of circumstances under which they will be (or are currently) working. The training will help them get a basic set of skills and knowledge to be able to make judgments about what is needed and appropriate, and then to design, adapt and implement programmes and policies accordingly. It is hoped that at the end of the day the participants will be able to make a positive difference in the lives of their people.

WCGE with the support of the AfricanBIB will implement a first four day training pro-gram in Yaounde, Cameroon. This training, driven by the conceptual approach of WCGE, will bring together young Cameroonian leaders from theoretical and practical backgrounds: representatives from government, business, academia, civil society, and religion.
